In the heart of Sri Lanka’s lush landscapes lies the captivating tale of Bluefield Teas—a journey that intertwines tradition, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Let’s embark on a virtual exploration of the origin of Bluefield, where every tea leaf carries the essence of a rich legacy.

Our story begins in the early 1800s when Maurice Worms, a visionary banker, settled in Ceylon. Enchanted by the breathtaking beauty of the Ramboda region, he acquired forest lands in Pussellawa. In 1841, Maurice introduced 214 tea cuttings from China, establishing a small tea garden that would evolve into the vast expanse of Bluefield’s tea plantations.

As the tea industry gained momentum in Ceylon, the Worms brothers laid the foundation for Bluefield’s legacy. By the mid-1900s, challenges and triumphs marked the journey. Bluefield persevered through fluctuations in global tea demand and shifting market dynamics, guided by a dedication to quality and a passion for tea cultivation.

In 2006, a pivotal moment arose under the leadership of Mr. M Nizar. Recognizing the untapped potential of the estate, he steered Bluefield towards a trajectory of growth. With strategic decisions and the acquisition of additional tea estates, Ganethenna and Theberton, Mr. Nizar elevated Bluefield to new heights, solidifying its status as one of the oldest and strongest tea estates.

Bluefield’s commitment to sustainability echoes in every tea leaf. In 1985, Needwood Tea plantation underwent a transformation, becoming the world’s first internationally certified organic tea factory. This milestone underscored Bluefield’s dedication to producing organic teas, championing environmental responsibility, and setting new standards in sustainable tea production.

Today, Bluefield Tea stands tall as a testament to the enduring spirit of Ceylon tea. With over 182 years of history, each sip of Bluefield tea encapsulates the artistry and heritage of Sri Lanka’s tea country. Join us as we celebrate the timeless allure of Ceylon tea and continue to unfold the chapters of Bluefield’s illustrious journey.

Indulge in the magic of Bluefield Teas, where every cup tells a story of tradition, innovation, and the boundless beauty of Ramboda. The journey continues, inviting you to experience the legacy of Bluefield—one sip at a time.
